Hi,
I didn't find a ring, but I bought something at a flea market in Rochester, Minn. this weekend that might be of interest to some alumni of your school. It is 2 large poster-sized paper boards with some portraits of students done by the teacher, Mrs. H. Stahmann. There are very lovely, colorful crayon portraits of the following children -
Margaret Johnson, Patricia Visintainer, Brian Barglind, Chris Alberti, Jonnette Bell, and Betty VanGinkle. 4 portraits on each board. At the bottom of each poster the teacher (also the artist) wrote "Quinnesec, Michigan Kindergarten 1954-1955 H. Stahmann. I bought them from the daughter in law of H. Stahmann, who's husband had recently died. She was selling some of her mother-in-laws' artwork.
They are charming pictures and I bought them for that reason and then thought that if I could contact any of the "kids", maybe they would want them. It sounded like she was a very special, dear teacher who kids would just go over to her house and ask her to "draw me!"
The little Quinnesec school is probably closed now after 50+ years...
Would you be able to locate any of these names in your database, or list of alumni somewhere? This school must have been in your area....I'm from White Bear Lake, Minn and don't really know anything about UP Michigan except that it's gorgeous and you get lots of the snow that always passes us by.
Anyway, I would appreciate any info you could give me. I am not selling these for profit or anything. I just want the "kids" to have them, if it is a precious memory. If they are not interested, I am happy to keep them. Do you have any advise on how to contact them? Thanks so much for any help you can offer!
H. Stamann's daughter-in -law was also excited when I told her that I would try to find the kids in the portraits. She wanted me to let her know how it turned out.
Thanks,
Karen Thorson
