Rosetta Bates Brown
Class of 1971
On February 28, 2020, I received a Law Enforcement Trailblazers Award from the Portsmouth Sheriff’s Office. Retired from the Portsmouth Police Department, after 22 years of service on July 1, 1997. During my law enforcement career, I became the department’s first African American female Field Training Officer in 1977; first African American female Sergeant in 1991 and first African American female Lieutenant in 1994.
