Joseph Ray "Jo-Jo" Townsell, born on November 4, 1960, in Reno, Nevada, is an esteemed alumni of Hug High School. He is most celebrated for his contribution to American football as an accomplished wide receiver.

Standing at 5 feet 9 inches and weighing 180 pounds, Townsell's sports career took off in college where he played at the University of California in Los Angeles (UCLA). His talent was recognized in the 1983 NFL Draft where he was chosen in the third round as the 78th pick.

Jo-Jo Townsell initiated his professional journey with the Los Angeles Express from 1983 to 1985 as part of the United States Football League (USFL).

In 1985, he made a significant switch to the New York Jets of the National Football League (NFL), where he played until 1990. During his time with the Jets, he had notable achievements including a total of 70 receptions, 1,119 receiving yards, and 5 touchdowns.
