What is Corey Anderson (2007) known for?

Corey Anderson, also known as "Overtime", is an accomplished American mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter hailing from Rockford, Illinois. Born on September 22, 1989, Anderson majored in business administration from the University of Wisconsin–Whitewater. He began his journey in the world of combat sports from a young age, wrestling from the third grade and achieving notable success in his high school years at Hononegah Community High School. He placed third in the Freestyle State Championships and was a regional champion.

Anderson's collegiate wrestling career is just as impressive. He earned the All-American status, placed first at the Regional Championships, and took as high as sixth place at the National Championships during his years at Lincoln College. Later at Newberry College, he compiled a record of 14 wins and 6 defeats at the NCAA Division II level, and after transferring to the University of Wisconsin–Whitewater, he achieved a record of 46 victories and just 5 losses. He went on to place second at the 2012 NCAA Division III Championships, marking the highest placement in the school's history.

In his professional career, Anderson has become a formidable presence in the MMA scene. He won the light heavyweight division in The Ultimate Fighter: Team Edgar vs. Team Penn in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). He is presently competing in the Bellator MMA and holds an impressive record of 17 wins, 8 by knockout, and 9 by decision in 24 total fights. As of June 2023, Anderson was ranked tenth in the Bellator men's pound-for-pound rankings and occupied the number one position in the Bellator Light Heavyweight Rankings.

Aside from his MMA record, Anderson holds a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, training under Ricardo Almeida. Despite initially refusing to try mixed martial arts, Anderson was eventually convinced by then Bellator MMA Welterweight Champion and former freestyle wrestling Olympian Ben Askren, leading him to the career that he is celebrated for today.
