About William Rogers Jackson, 54, Springfield, MO., passed away at 9:40 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, 1999, in his home. Bill was born Aug. 7, 1945 near Rolla Mo. He graduated from Hillcrest High School, Springfield in 1963, and served in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Providence, RI. At the time of his death, Bill had been an employee of the Public Works Department of the city of Springfield for 25 years. He was a registered land surveyor and a member of the Missouri Association of Registered Land Surveyors. Throughout this life, Bill's interests reflected his vivid imagination and wide-ranging sense of adventure. He built and flew an Ultralight airplane, built and raced several stock-cars, competed in 23 triathalons, competed in the Pike's Peak ascent, and wrote short stories and magazine articles. He was a member of and worshiped with the East Sunshine Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his father, William B. Jackson. He is survived by his wife and friends, Marsha, Springfield; mother, Lucille Jackson, Branson; sisters Margaret "Maggie" Smith, Branson, Betty Stephenson, Springfield, and Edith Maxine and husband Michael Moore, Northridge, Calif.; his wife's parents, Noel and Betty Davis, Springfield, Mo.; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Terry and Vicki Davis, St. Louis, Mo.; nine nephews, four nieces, and many wonderful friends. Bill was a blessing to our lives. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 14, 1999 in Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel with Lowell Thomas and Mike Brazle officiating, with burial in Hazelwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Fair Haven Children's Home, 3132 North Fair Haven Loop, Strafford, MO 65757 or to St. John's Hospice Care, 2055 South Fremont, Springfield, MO 65804.
