About Carl Wesley "Wes" Ashcroft, 43, Springfield, and an active churchman, died Saturday, Nov. 16, 1991, of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Mr. Ashcroft was born in Hartford, Conn., on June 29, 1948, and had been a resident of Springfield for 43 years. He was the son of Rev. J. Robert Ashcroft and Grace Pauline Larson Ashcroft (deceased)), both also of Springfield. Mr. Ashcroft graduated with a degree in mathematics from Evangel College in 1972 and was a member of the Board of the Evangel College Alumni Association. While attending college, he participated in Christian outreach efforts and was a student athlete. Evangel College awarded him varsity letters in both soccer and tennis. Mr. Ashcroft's enthusiasm for athletics extended into his family life. He coached and supported soccer teams on which his children participated in the Springfield youth soccer programs. He was an active bicyclist, frequently riding over 20 miles a day. Professionally, Mr. Ashcroft was involved in the land title insurance industry. Working in Springfield, he held partnership interests in Independence, Buffalo and Lebanon. He was a past president of the Missouri Land title Association and a former member of the Board of Directors of the American Land Title Association. Mr. Ashcroft dedicated his life to his family and his church. He was a former member of the Board of Deacons at Evangel Temple. For the past five years, Mr. Ashcroft participated in mission efforts in Mexico, working with a church team constructing new churches in Mexican communities.

Among the survivors are his wife, Denise Lillian; a daughter, Carried, 14; two sons, Danny, 12, and Joe, 19, all of the home; his father, the Rev. J. Robert Ashcroft and Mrs. Ashcroft; and two brothers, Robert Ashcroft, Gladstone, and John Ashcroft, Jefferson City. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19, 1991, in Evangel Temple Assembly of God Church. Burial will be in the Greenlawn Cemetery. under direction of Thieme Colonial Chapel. Those who wish to honor their association with and their memory of Wes Ashcroft may contribute to the missions fund of Evangel Temple Church of the Ashcroft Memorial Scholarship Fund at Evangel College. COLLEAGUES MOURN DEATH OF MAN WITH ZEST FOR LIFE

Carl W. "Wes" Ashcroft was remembered by his friends as some who was always upbeat and compassionate. Ashcroft, the younger brother of Gov. John Ashcroft, was killed in a two-car accident Saturday morning in Springfield. Mickey Brown, a close friend and business associate said, "I knew him for 15 years. He was the nicest person I ever met. I used to kid with him and say 'You know Wes, whenever I get depressed, all I have to do is call, talk to you and that picks me up.' "
Another business associate, Springfield attorney, Fred Brooks, said Ashcroft, 43, was loved by all and had a zest for life. "He was a member of a very prominent, political family," he said, "but he never lost his perspective."
Ashcroft worked for Hogan Land Title Co., 921 Boonville Ave. He graduated from Hillcrest High School in 1966 and Evangel College in 1972. His father, the Rev. J. Robert Ashcroft, is a former president of the school. He was a math major and soccer and tennis letterman at the liberal arts college, Evangel spokesman Paul Logsdon said. He was a longtime member of the Evangel College Alumni Association Board of Directors.
Chuck Cox, Evangel alumni director, described Ashcroft as "a person with a very tender heart. He is the type of person that everyone loved to be around."
Ashcroft was active in his church, making several mission trips to Mexico, Cox. said. "He was a person who's always looking for ways that he can help people in need.,' he said. [Spfd News-Leader dated 17 Nov 1991]
