Graduation Year Class of 1953
Date of Passing Sep 24, 2018
About Maybe you knew him ... maybe you knew of him. Indeed, Tommy McDonald, Class of 1953, was a legend. Born in Roy, New Mexico on July 26, 1934, he passed away today September 24, 2018 at the age of 84 in Audubon, PA.. The cause of death has not been determined at this time, but he did deal with dementia related illness. He grew up in Roy. His father held him back in the 9th grade with the hopes that he would grow some. That never come to be. The family moved to Albuquerque his sophomore years, and he attended Highland High School.

He was a 3-sport letterman at Highland ... football, basketball, and track. He excelled in all three sports. At 5' 9" he wasn't the biggest of athletes. He was actually "discovered" during basketball ... he was so quick and fast. A coach saw him and let Bud Wilkinson at Oklahoma University know. His senior year in track, he won 5 1st places.

He got a scholarship to Oklahoma University. At OU, he played in 47 games for Bud Wilkinson. During his college career, he/the team never lost a game.

IN 1957, he got drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles. He played for the Eagles for 7 years setting several team records. He went on and played for three other teams in his 12 years as an NFL wide receiver. For most of the time, he was listed at 5' 9", 165 lbs ... more recently, he was listed as 175 lbs.

He was inducted into the College Hall of Fame in 1985. In 1997, he was inducted into the National Federation of High Schools Hall of Fame, and in 1998, he was elected into the NFL Hall of Fame. There are just to many accomplishments and accolades to mention.

Rest In Peace, Tommy. You will always be remembered.
