About Forrest J "Jim" Pollard, 63, of Overland Park, Kan., passed away Saturday, June 26, 2010, at the KU Medical Center.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Aurora. Dr. F. Cole Fowler will officiate. There will also be a Celebration of Life service held in Overland Park, Kan. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making a donation in memory of Jim to the Wounded Warrior Project. Forrest known to his friends and family as Jim, was born on Dec.13, 1946, in Grand Island. After graduating from Grand Island Senior High School in 1965, he attended Kearney State College and joined the United States Navy in 1967, serving aboard the U.S.S. Leary.

He was married in 1968 to Kathy Goble of Aurora. After his military service, he attended the University of Nebraska and graduated in 1976 with a degree in Civil Engineering. Their daughter, Jennifer, was born in 1975,

Jim was active in many professional and military engineering associations. He reentered the United States Navy as a Reserve Officer and retired in 1997.

Jim was preceded in death by his mother, Irma (Mettenbrink) Pollard, father, Forrest J. Pollard, sister, Sharon Livingston , and brother, Robert Pollard.

He is survived by his wife, Kathy, of Overland Park, Kan., daughter,
Jennifer (Mark) Steliga, and granddaughter, Caitlin of Stuttgart, Germany; brother, Jerry (Elaine) Pollard of Erie, Colo., sister, Judy (Al) Beckler of Lincoln, sister-in-law, Linda Pollard of Omaha, and brother-in-law, Jim Livingston of Grand Island. In Aurora he is survived by his mother-in-law Sarah Druliney, and sisters-in-law, Patty (Mike) Newman and Debe (Mike) Merrick as well as many nieces, nephews, friends and colleagues.

Jim was a generous spirit, a patriot, and a lovingly dedicated husband, father, grandfather and friend. To those whose lives he touched he will always be warmly remembered for his passion for golf, a game that he loved, and the many good times he shared with us.
