What is Ryan Braun known for?

Ryan Joseph Braun, born on November 17, 1983, in Mission Hills, California, is a celebrated American former professional baseball player. Better known for his extraordinary outfield skills, Braun played his entire career for the Milwaukee Brewers in Major League Baseball (MLB) from 2007 to 2020. Besides being a left fielder, he also showcased his versatility by playing as a right fielder and first baseman, and started his MLB journey as a third baseman during his rookie season.

Before his professional stint, Braun was a two-time All-American at the University of Miami and was named National Freshman of the Year by Baseball America in 2003. His exceptional skills as a five-tool player earned him a spot in the Brewers' lineup as he was drafted in the first round of the 2005 MLB draft, becoming the team's Minor League Player of the Year in 2006.

Over his career, Braun accumulated significant accolades including the 2011 NL Most Valuable Player award, 2007 NL Rookie of the Year, and bagged five Silver Slugger awards from 2008 to 2012. The talented outfielder was named to six All-Star games and led the NL three times in slugging percentage. His MLB career stats boast a commendable .296 batting average, 352 home runs, and 1,154 Runs batted in. In 2022, Braun was honored by being inducted into the Brewers Wall of Honor, a testament to his contributions to the team.

Born and raised in Los Angeles, Braun attended Granada Hills High School in Granada Hills, California, where he solely focused on baseball, shaping the contours of his illustrious sports career.

However, Braun's career was not without controversy. He came under scrutiny for a failed testosterone test in 2011 and was connected to the Biogenesis of America clinic, known for providing performance-enhancing drugs to professional baseball players. This led to his suspension without pay for the remainder of the 2013 season and playoffs; he returned to baseball in 2014.

Despite his controversies, Braun's significant contributions to the sport of baseball, especially his tenure with the Milwaukee Brewers, certainly make him one of the most notable alumni from Granada Hills High School.
