About	Griffin Robert Mattson was born at Evanston hospital June 27, 1998. He spent his childhood in Lincolnshire, and was christened at Holy Cross church. He then moved to Lake Forest and then to Northbrook where he was confirmed at St. Norbert’s parish in April 2013. Growing up he enjoyed many sports, went to summer camp, and excelled at playing the piano. In middle school and his freshman year of high school, Griffin played offensive and defensive line for his park district and school football teams. As a sophomore, Griffin excelled at indoor and outdoor track, running the sprints and participating in field events. During his high school years, Griffin participated in the DECA program, winning his category at the regional and state level, then earning 3rd place at the international business school competition in California during his senior year. He was pursuing college studies with concentrations in business and computer science. Griffin loved playing golf or basketball with many friends who enjoyed his quick wit and gentle and selfless nature. He was a deep thinker. He was not satisfied with general knowledge about a subject, but rather sought to understand and master the details behind surface appearances. He loved his family, who in turn loved him dearly and will miss him immensely. Griffin is survived by his mother and stepfather Diane and Tom Kurtz, his father Brad Mattson, his sister Jaclyn Mattson, and stepbrothers Drake and Brennen Kurtz. They are surrounded today by Griffin’s grandparents and more than twenty Aunts, Uncles, and cousins. Our family is extremely grateful to you, our many friends, for your outpouring of love and support, your tangible expressions of kindness, and your many prayers for our family. A visitation will be held on Friday, March 22, 2019 from 4-8 pm at Kelley & Spalding Funeral Home, 1787 Deerfield Rd. Highland Park, IL 60035. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2019 10:00 am at Harvest Bible Chapel, 1731 Deerfield Rd, Highland Park, IL 60035.
