Darryl led the Garey Vikings to their first CIF Football Championship in 1982. He established himself as a great athlete as recognized by Channel 7 as Athlete of the Year honors. Darryl also participated in Basketball and was always a crowd favorite while displaying his speed as part of the track team.
Darryl went on to play football for Arizona State University before entering the National Football League as a member of the Minnesota Vikings as well as a short stint with the Greenbay Packers.
All the while, Darryl was never one of those individuals who banged his chest and said "look at me" Darryl was in fact, quite the opposite. He was truly an inspiration and someone to emulate as he did things the right way.
