About	Dr. Gene Decker passed away Thursday, February 23, in Venice, Florida. Gene was 86 years old. He was born in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania where he was raised by his parents Leo Decker and Nellie Shiner-Decker. He received a full wrestling scholarship to Scranton University and completed his graduate degree at St. John's University. He earned his Doctorate at the University of Sarasota. Gene was an inspiring, charismatic person who could fill a room with his zest for life and personable, honest interest in everyone he met. He was a teacher at Garden City High School for 30 + years, where he served as Head of the Science Department, coached wrestling and tennis. He also taught Biology at NCC and was the union treasurer for the Adjunct Faculty Association at Nassau Community College. In addition, he taught education classes at Dowling College. Gene was an active member of the Garden City Retired Teachers Association and a proud, honorary member of the Garden City Men's Association. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ursula Decker, his two daughters, Lynn Beran and Nancy Ekloff, son in law-Bjorn Ekloff, grandchildren Briana, Bryan, Bianca, Blaine, Brittany and Shane, his sister Miriam Chmiellewski and brother Jerry Decker.
