About Louis D. Guido
September 11, 1947 - August 29, 2022

GUIDO, LOUIS D.
August 22, 2022.
From a young age, Lou was known for his infectious smile and seemed to always have a glint in his eye. As a child, he was rarely seen without a ball in his hand and seemed to have the energy of ten kids. He loved sports, music and the arts. As a teenager he became a drummer and, with his close high school friends, created a band they named The Royal Playboys. In the 1960s they signed with DoDe record label, successfully releasing several 45s. His true passion though, was education. He earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education and counseling from Wayne State University. His entire career was spent working in the public schools, both in District 7 in Dearborn Heights and the Dearborn Public Schools which lead him to become very active in advocating for teachers and labor rights. In 1975 he married Carol. Together they had two daughters, Catherine and Adreana. Throughout the years he developed a love for travel with the entire family. Some of his proudest memories were of supporting his brother-in-law Rick Goward, the conductor and founder of the HFC (then HFCC) Big Band, as they performed at Jazz Festivals throughout Europe, as well as presidential inaugurations that afforded Lou the opportunity to experience travel to many places with his closest family. He was an avid Michigan Football supporter and season ticket holder for many decades. He was known to enjoy a good political conversation. For many years he took pleasure in the time he spent riding his Harley. In his adult life, Lou enjoyed serving in organizations such as the Lions Club and socially spent time as a member of the Elks Club. In recent years, his favorite conversation topic was his grandchildren, for whom he had such great love.

Survivors include his two daughters -- Catherine (Mike Ciantar) and Adreana (Carey Warner), three grandchildren — Luciana Warner, Dane and Charlie Ciantar, sister Andi, brother Santo, nieces Erin and Emily, nephews Sam, Sonny, and the late John, in addition to great nephews Lennon and Harrison. Sadly, he was preceded in death this year by brother-in-law and great friend Rick Goward.

Visitation Saturday from 2-8 pm at Stanley Turowski Funeral Home, 25509 W. Warren, Dearborn Heights.
