About Auto Mechanics

WIDMAN, James C. Age 88, of Kettering, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2017. Jim was born an only child of Hap and Edith (James) in Dayton on February 15, 1929. He graduated from Fairmont High School and DePauw University, and then served two years in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. Jim followed his dad into the auto repair business at Widman's Garage for 25 years, and then instructed auto repair at Kettering Joint Vocational School for 14 years. Jim was a Kettering Volunteer Firefighter for more than 30 years. He was an active life-long member of David's Church and loved being the self-appointed parking lot valet. He was a competitive athlete, an avid sports fan and became an iconic cheerleader to the fans in the stands. He would light up a room with his smile, booming voice, red hat, plaid pants, and white bucks. He loved and is loved by his family and friends! He is survived by his wife Ruth (Grabeman) of nearly 58 years, two daughters, Sally (Rob) Ferree and Julie (Dan) Pickrel, granddaughters Lauren and Kaitlin Pickrel, Rachel, Hannah, and Emma Ferree. Visitation at David's Church on Saturday August 5th begins at 9:30 AM and is followed by a Memorial Service at 11AM. We thank Anna's Helpers and the staff at Walnut Creek for their support and caregiving. In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions may be made to David's United Church of Christ 170 W. David Road, Kettering, OH 45429.
