| About | Math/Computer Science FUNDERBURG, Alvin K. age 97, of Kettering, passed away October 10, 2013 at the Laurels of West Carrollton. He is survived by his wife: Ruth Marie; daughter: Lois (John) McCracken of Marion, IN; son: Franklyn Funderburg of St. Petersburg, FL; daughter Evelyn Delgado is deceased. He has thirteen grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.. Alvin was born on a farm in Clark County, Ohio, the son of Cyrus & Emma (Studebaker) Funderburg. Alvin received Master Degrees in Science and Mathematics at the University of Colorado and Bowdoin College in Maine. He spent ten years in the United States Air Force as a Navigator and Bombardier during WWII with 26 combat missions over North Korea in 1950, retiring with the rank of Lt. Colonel. He taught 26 years in the Fairborn and Kettering school systems, with 18 years as Chairman of the Mathematics department of Fairmont High School. During retirement, Alvin wrote books on family history, one novel and a series of five books on religious topics. As a member of Gideon's International, his specialty was visiting and testifying at the Montgomery County jail. Alvin and Ruth are members of longstanding at the Grace Bible Church in Springfield. Funeral services will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home. Interment will follow at New Carlisle Cemetery in New Carlisle, Ohio. |
