About James L. Morrison
THE VILLAGES, FL
James Lee Morrison was born in 1939 and passed away peacefully in his sleep on Dec. 29, 2018, under the loving care of the staff at the Summerfield Suites Assisted Living Facility in Florida.
He was the beloved husband of Beverly Mae who preceded him in death on Dec. 7, 2018, and cherished father of Sharon Morrison-Wolley, Doug Morrison, and Brian Morrison, and grandfather to Saige and Maiyan Wolley and Maggie and Clare Morrison. James had an extended family in Morganton, NC, and enjoyed visiting and attending family reunions yearly until recently. He is survived there by many cousins and extended family. He also leaves behind several of his lifelong closest friends from high school and countless other friends, neighbors, and co-workers.
James was born to John L. Morrison and Helen Bruder Morrison in Trenton, NJ, and raised as an only child. He met Beverly at church when they were only four years old and their lifelong love affair began at that time, continuing for many years thru high school and college until they married in 1960. They shared a long and happy marriage and much love for almost 60 years.
James graduated from Ewing High School in 1957 and attended Bucknell University through their ROTC program and graduated with a degree in civil engineering. He also continued in the Army Reserves for many years, retiring as a colonel.
James and Beverly raised their family in Ewing, NJ, where James first worked for the New Jersey Department of Transportation in highway and bridge design and inspection. Upon retiring from the state, he worked for several private engineering firms including The RBA Group, Arora and Associates, and Geotech Inc. until his full retirement in 2001. Jim and Bev then sold their home in New Jersey and moved to the Villages, FL, where they built a lovely home where they lived happily for 16 years. Their life in The Villages was filled with lots of social gatherings, events, friends, and until recently, hosting many dinners at their home. They cherished the visits from their family, grandchildren, and other family and friends and continued a tradition of a warm and nurturing home open to all visitors.
James also enjoyed golfing, playing softball, participating in water aerobics, and acting as both president and treasurer of The Polo Ridge Association of The Villages. He was an active member of The West Trenton Presbyterian Church and The New Covenant Methodist Church of The Villages where he participated in several programs in other countries and the U.S. in need of volunteer services and assistance. James was also an active member of the Department of NJ Reserve Officers Association and the NJ Society of Professional Engineers. Jim was a doer who loved to travel and had a keen sense of adventure and experiencing new things and interacting with new people.
