About	Betty Ann Attwood (Matyazic), a beacon of love and kindness, left this world unexpectedly on Christmas Day, Dec. 25, 2023, at the age of 88. Born Oct. 20, 1935, in Euclid, the daughter of the late John and Olga Matyazic. Betty grew up in Euclid, attending Shore and Euclid Sr. High School before starting her career in the haberdashery department at Bailey's Euclid store. Betty's love story with John was one for the ages, kindled through a mutual friend. They were inseparable, relishing moments at the local LaSalle movie theater on E. 185th, creating memories at Euclid Beach Park, and building a life together across Euclid, Concord and Willowick, in addition to Naples, Bonita Springs and Ft. Myers in Florida. Happy to support her family in the success of their car wash businesses, Betty could be seen regularly engaging with customers and employees, never hesitating to lend a helping hand. Her interest in the newest trends brought unique merchandise, plus she personally handcrafted items to sell in Gifts-N-Go. Her vibrant life was marked by diverse passions, including sewing, china painting, crafting, baking, especially Slovenian dishes and desserts, and exploring the world through travel. In her youth, she reveled in racquetball games with her girlfriends and later embraced the Florida sunshine, leading water aerobics classes and engaging in Bocce ball games at Miromar Lakes. Betty's selflessness knew no bounds as she dedicated countless hours volunteering at Euclid General Hospital, Euclid High Cafeteria and with the Euclid Football Booster Club. When her children were younger, she was actively involved with the PTA at Wells School. Her commitment extended to the Euclid High School Class of 1952 Reunion Committee, for which she held a vital role in planning gatherings through the years. While living in Miromar Lakes, Fla., she was a devoted member of the Hearts of Miromar Women's Club. Quite proud of her Slovenian heritage, Betty was involved in many Slovenian activities and organizations since her youth. Her love for entertaining shone through in her involvement with the Cleveland Club of SW Florida, serving as President of the Miromar Lakes Vivaldi Social Club, as well as orchestrating unforgettable events both in Ohio and Florida, like the annual Pancake Breakfasts, BBQ gatherings, Kentucky Derby celebrations, annual volleyball parties, Super Bowl bashes, and New Year's Eve parties. Her touch made each event extraordinary. Betty's nurturing nature was evident in her homemade chicken noodle soup and warm cinnamon rolls, always ready to comfort and bring a smile to those she loved, especially her grandchildren. She was humble, hard-working, devoted to her Catholic faith and so dedicated to and proud of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Every family gathering, whether it was the whole group or just a few, involved wonderful meals, playful antics, fun games and maybe even a polka or two. The countless memories will be treasured forever. Betty Ann Attwood leaves behind a legacy of love, generosity, and boundless warmth. Her absence leaves a void impossible to fill, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were privileged to know her. She was the cherished wife and best friend for an incredible 68 years to John Attwood Jr.; devoted mother of Jacqui Herringshaw (Ned Hyland), Debi (Gregg) Boehlefeld, John Jay (Romanca) Attwood, and Kristin (Marc) Comisar; adored grandmother of Bradley (Stephanie), Ashley (Patrick), Michael (Casey), Mitchell (Kristen), Halle (Eric), Reece (Khrystyan), Sage (Justine), Kendall (Austin), Jake, Avery, and Joshua; great-grandmother of Paisley, Adelaide, Rosaline, Luxley, Juliette, Harper, James, Violet, and two great-granddaughters on-the-way this spring. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving siblings, Marge Farrelly and John Matyazic. A celebration of Betty's remarkable life will be held 12 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, 2024, at Church of the Gesu, 2470 Miramar Blvd., University Heights, OH 44118. A luncheon will follow. The family requests in celebration of Betty's beautiful life that guests wear colorful or even floral attire to the day's events.
