| About | Paul H. Dillman, 67, passed away on August 6 in Sturgeon Bay, WI. Paul was born July 8, 1947, in Cedar Falls, Iowa. He graduated from East High in Sioux City in 1965 and from University of Iowa in 1969. He was very active in DeMolay during his high school years and later became the Iowa State Master Councilor. He served as an officer in the Navy for 2 years on the USS Cleveland, an LPD7, and later as commander of the Naval Reserve in Sioux City. Paul married Nicki Martin in July of 1971. He began a banking career at Security National Bank in Sioux City and transferred to Cherokee State Bank in Cherokee, Ia. While in Cherokee he was very active in the community with membership in the Jaycees, the Lion's club, and the Masonic Temple as well as the Presbyterian Church in Cherokee. He also coached tee ball and played softball. He was an avid painter, photographer, and did beautiful stained glass work. He suffered a burst aneurysm in January 1984 which left him blind, partially paralyzed and aphasic. After several months of hospitalization and rehab, he went to live with his parents in Sioux City, Ia. In 2007, the family moved to Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri. In February, 2014, Paul moved to Sturgeon Bay, WI, to be closer to his eldest daughter and family. He was a resident in a skilled nursing facility there where he passed away. Although only in Sturgeon Bay for a short time he had an impact on many of the people who met him. His ability to maintain a positive outlook and sunny disposition no matter what the circumstance was inspirational. He is survived by his daughters, Regan (Matt) Luders, Beth (Henry) Hoopes, and Kathryn (Andrew) Leishing; grandchildren, Ben and Hayden Luders; Paul, Will, and Eddy Hoopes; Paige and Lydia Leihsing; his mother, Barbara Dillman; sisters Michele (Michael) Waite and Linda Dillman; brothers David (Kris) and Tim (Nancy); eleven nieces and nephews and a host of cousins and friends. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, and Ozark Chapel United Methodist Church. He loved music of any kind, listening to audiobooks, enjoyed golf and softball, and was a loyal Hawkeye fan, even while being teased mercilessly in both Missouri and Wisconsin. Paul's life made a lasting impression on several communities and he will be remembered and loved by many people, those who knew him before his aneurysm and after. His smile and good humor will be greatly missed. |
