Former Fletcher High School Friends (Class of '84) Collaborate on New Tennis Coaching DVD Series!
In the fall of 1983, Darryl Bennett moved to Jacksonville Beach, Florida, from Northwest Indiana, during the start of his senior year of high school. What might have been a rough transition in an ordinary situation was made much easier thanks in large part to a welcoming group of new friends. Many of Bennett's new friends were members of the Senator's basketball team on which he played. Another new friend was fellow senior Eric Wammock.
"Eric was so welcoming and enthusiastic about me feeling 'at home' away from home that we developed a great friendship that endures to this day." said Bennett
Wammock was a highly ranked, competitive high school tennis player for the Fletcher Senators and would go on to play Division 1 tennis for Virginia Commonwealth University. Bennett did not pursue basketball at the college level, but instead returned to Indiana and attended DePauw University, a small liberal arts college where his dad and brother also attended.
Wammock stayed in the game of tennis, and, for the past 25 years, has logged over 75,000 hours of tennis teaching. He now owns Hilton Head Island Tennis and is Director of Tennis for the Hilton Head Island Beach and Tennis Resort. He is also the Hilton Head Christian Academy Tennis Coach and is the former Sea Pines Resort Head Tennis Professional (for 17 years).
Bennett's post-college career has been in sales, marketing and advertising in Chicago and Boston. For the past 15 years, Bennett has been with an Ames, Iowa-based company that is now the world leader in production and distribution of coaching and training DVDs and video programming. The roster of coaches who have done DVDs with them is a 'who's who' of American sport icons: John Wooden, Bob Knight, Billy Donovan, John Calipari, Alex Rodriguez, Dan Gable, Derrick Rose, Mike Krzyzewski and many more.
In June of 2011, Bennett his company directors had a corporate retreat in Hilton Head. While there, Bennett and Wammock found time to get together to talk about their families, their high school memories and their current careers. It was during that week that the former Fletcher High School friends conspired to find a way to put Wammock's expertise together with Bennett's tennis customers' needs.
Championship Productions has just released two tennis DVDs featuring Wammock, who is a Professional 1 Certified Tennis Teacher (USPTA) and has 25 years as a tennis coach and instructor at every level of the game.
The new tennis series,'Mega Tennis Drills' with Wammock features two titles ideal for any level coach; 'Dead Ball Drills' contains drills ideally suited for beginning or advanced players to reinforce important tennis fundamentals. 'Live Ball Drills' simulate what happens in a match; therefore, these are ideally suited for the more advanced and experienced players on a team.
Stan Smith, Hall of Fame tennis player (and colleague of Wammock's at Sea Pines Resort for 17 years) said of the new DVDs: "I've known Eric Wammock for a lot of years. We worked together at Sea Pines Resort. He certainly knows the game very well. I've seen him on the court teaching ... he's even worked with my kids. Any advice Eric gives will be very helpful to anyone who wants to learn the game!"
