Bob Bryar

Drummer for the American rock band My Chemical Romance

What is Bob Bryar known for?

Robert Cory Bryar, better known as Bob Bryar, is a notable alumnus from Downers Grove South High School in Downers Grove, Illinois. He was born in Chicago, Illinois on December 31, 1979. Bob is recognized for his illustrious career as a drummer, particularly as part of the well-known American rock band, My Chemical Romance.

Bryar's journey with music started at a young age as he performed in his school's marching and jazz bands. His passion for music led him to study sound engineering at the University of Florida.

Bob Bryar started his professional career in 2000 working as a touring sound engineer for rock bands including The Used and Thrice. He befriended members of My Chemical Romance during their shared tour, which led to his joining the band in 2004. Bryar replaced Matt Pelissier, the former drummer, shortly after the release of their second studio album, 'Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge'.

Bryar featured in all music videos for this album (except the first version of "I'm Not Okay") and performed on all subsequent releases supporting the album. One of his significant contributions was to the band's commercially successful concept album, 'The Black Parade'. In spite of suffering numerous injuries on tour, he continued recording and performing with My Chemical Romance until his departure in 2010.

Despite the setbacks, Bryar's commitment to the band remained unwavering. After his departure, he continued his involvement in the music scene by working behind-the-scenes for several band tours before he ultimately retired from music in 2014. Following his retirement, Bryar became a real estate agent and an active supporter of dog rescue charities and sanctuaries, showcasing his diverse interests and compassionate nature.
