Carolyn Mary Russell, 42, of Duluth died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2002, in St Mary's Medical Center after a long, courageous battle against a mitochondrial disease. Carolyn was born July 21, 1959, in Duluth to Phillip and Mary (Hatley) McLoughlin. She was a 1977 graduate of Denfeld High School. Carolyn shared with others her outgoing personality and love for entertainment as an actress in area plays and TV commercials, as the first co-host of WDIO-TV's PM Magazine, and as director of the College of St. Scholastica's Performing Arts Series. She was a member of University United Methodist Church and had served on the a board of the Salvation Army and Epilepsy Foundation.
Carolyn was a loving wife and mother, a loyal friend and a role model, whose dignified ex ample showed people how to appreciate every minute of their time on earth. She loved music, dance and theater.
She was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Kathleen; and her parents, Phillip and Mary McLoughlin. Carolyn is survived by her husband, .Daniel J. Russell, whom she married Oct. 1, 1983; her daughter, Mary, and son Timothy, both at home; stepdaughter Jennifer (Matt) Percy, and their son, Max Percy of Shoreview, Minn.; stepson Daniel Russell of Boston; and her brothers, Timothy and John McLoughlin, both of Duluth.
