David Randal Barnes, 55, met his Lord and Savior on October 9, 2014. He was born March 13, 1959 in Altus, Okla., to Shelby and Jean Barnes.
David was an exceptional father, husband, son, brother, uncle, teacher and friend. He loved American history, eating out, telling jokes, spending time with family, teaching and crossword puzzles.
David is survived by his wife and son, Lynda and Drew; parents, Shelby and Jean; brother, Danny and his wife Garva; sister, Shelley; father-in-law and mother-in-law Bob and Kathy Precure; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Dan and Marie Waters, Cindy and Steven Swann, Rob and Angie Precure, Rick and Claudia Precure, and Shannan and Amy Stewart. He will also be missed by many nieces and nephews: Shawn, Ryan, Patrick, Nathan, Kyle, Kari, Jaymichael, Taylor, Bri, Shelby, Sara, Susan, Becca, Lizzie, Annie, Katy, Molly, Emily, Paige, Cole, Kaitlyn, Jimmy, Ethan, Evan, and Erin; as well as a host of friends who will miss him dearly.
David was preceded in death by his grandparents and brothers, Rick and Steve.
When David was 3 years old, the family moved from Hollis, Okla., to Oklahoma City. The family then moved to Deer Creek area when David was in the 4th grade. He lived the remainder of his life in the Deer Creek area. David graduated from Deer Creek High School, received his Bachelor’s degree from Central State University (now UCO) and his law degree from Oklahoma City University. He practiced law as a sole practitioner for 15 years. In 2008, David followed God’s calling and became a 7th grade social studies teacher. He taught 5 1/2 years at Belle Isle Enterprise Middle School until he was diagnosed with cancer in January of 2014. There are no words to describe how much he enjoyed teaching and challenging his students to work hard. David often said he couldn’t believe he was paid to do something he enjoyed so much. Although he loved teaching, his love of family was incomparable. He was the entertainment and light of all family gatherings and he will be greatly missed.
A come-and-go visitation will be 1-6 p.m. Sunday, October 12, at Crawford Family Funeral Service, Edmond. A service celebrating his life will be 3 p.m. Monday, October 13, at United Methodist Church of the Servant, 14343 N. MacArthur Blvd., Oklahoma City.
