Cheryl Honey is a true inspiration. She transformed her life after her husband abandoned her and their four children. She organized a group of neighbors into a family support network who met at a local school . The neighbors pooled their resources and helped one another. Local agencies shared information to help families overcome life challenges and invited the families to volunteer to help their clients. This group formed the Family Support Network, Int'l, a non-profit organization in 1993 and started replicating Family Support Networks in other communities across the country. In 2006, Max Stalnaker, a VolunteerMatch volunteer and Cheryl designed a new web technology on www.familynetwork.org enabling anyone around the world to sign up as a Good Neighbor and become part of the Family Support Network. This model emerged into Community Weaving and was showcased as a model for poverty reduction. In 2007, Cheryl was the overall winner of the Jefferson Award, the mini-Nobel Prize for Public Service. Other awards she has received: Ambassador for Peace; Daily Points of Light; Excellence in Leadership and Giraffe Award for sticking her neck out. She spearheaded Community Weaving America after Obama became President and is now weaving community across America and around the world.
