Classmate Memories

Roy was an athlete scholar at Covina High School. The field, mat and gridiron absorbed his blood, sweat and tears as he lent his time, toil and talent to the Colts track and field, wrestling and football teams. As a member of the Letterman’s Club, Roy showed his fun loving nature by chanting cheers as a female cheerleader during the club's annual Powderpuff football game. His acting ability as well as his lively personality were on stage during the Centaurians' skit in Girls League's, a girls service club, annual All-Girl Revue. Roy displayed the value he placed on civic mindedness by serving as secretary of Centaurians, the boys service club, and as a Senior Class Council member. His involvement in the Model United Nations club and in the California Scholarship Federation revealed his academic dedication. At the end of his senior year, Roy was awarded The Bank of America Certificate in Laboratory Science and received a letter of acceptance from UCLA. Roy’s best friends were Curtis Cannon, Tim Carroll and Jytte Soviak Leventhal.

To replicate the strong sense of community he had fostered at Covina High, Roy joined the Greek fraternity Theta Xi upon his arrival at UCLA. Theta X's Unicorn, a close cousin to Covina High's Colt, and motto Juncti Juvant (United they Serve) gave Roy a like if broadened community to belong to and served as his base camp to explore the opportunities and resources UCLA bestows upon each Bruin.

My belated deepest condolences to his wife, son, parents, brother, sister, extended family and friends.
