About David L. Laffere, age 48, of the Basehor, Kan., area, was taken from us as the result of a highway accident Tuesday, June 2, 2009. A visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Friday June 5, at St. Patrick Catholic Church (1086 N. 95th St., Kansas City, Kan.), with a rosary to be said at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be held Saturday, June 6, at 11 a.m., also at St. Patrick Catholic Church. David, the youngest son of Vernon and Darlene (Duntz) Laffere, was born September 13, 1960, in Salina, Kan. David graduated high school from Concordia High and continued onto Cloud County Community College on a baseball scholarship. While still a senior at Concordia High School, Dave meet Carolyn Engelken, who was attending Cloud County Community College. The two were married two years later on August 9, 1980. David continued his education and graduated with honors from Rockhurst University with a B.S.B.A. in finance/economics, and continued on to Rockhurst to receive his M.B.A. in finance. David was currently employed by KCP&L as the manger of the fuels department. Prior to KCP&L, he was associated with Panhandle Eastern Pipeline Company. He spent his entire career determined to better himself as not only an employee but as a husband, father, and man. David was an extremely loving man who devoted his life to his four children: Kelly (26, Melbourne, Fla.), Eric (23, Basehor, Kan.) and fiance Kacie Ellis, Christina (21, Basehor, Kan.) and Sarah (19, Basehor Kan). He had a competitive spirit who loved coaching whatever sport was in season, attending choir concerts, and taking interest in every hobby his children ever had. David had an infectious laugh and was constantly making everyone around him laugh. He enjoyed playing golf every chance he got, practicing his wood working skills, traveling with his family, and meeting new people. David is survived by his wife, Carolyn, his four children, his parents, Vernon and Darlene of Basehor, Kan. Also, he is survived by his brother Mike (spouse Karan) Laffere of Basehor, Kan., and his sister Susan (spouse Frank) Rowden of Iberia, Mo., along with a very large extended family and many good friends. We would like to thank all our friends for their overwhelming generosity, loyalty, and support. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorial contributions be made to Children's Mercy Hospital or The American Cancer Society.
