After graduation from CCHS, I attended ECC in their Construction Technologies program with the intention of continuing my education in the architectural program at U.B. The year was 1968 and the U.S. Army had other ideas sending me an invitation to join that I could not refuse. With 3 months of training at Ft. Dix commencing on Jan 2nd, 1969, and a months leave, I was off to southeast Asia; thjousands of miles away and a dramatic change in climate. I served with Co. D, 2nd Bat., 18th Infantry, 1st Inf Div from the last day in May of 1969 to April 15th 1970 when president Nixon pulled my unit out of Vietnam. Needless to say, it was a life altering experience in many ways. I wrote to a gal most of the time I was overseas and we were married in July of 1971. I resumed my full time position as mechanical engineering draftsman and intern at Cannon Design with the idea of transfering over to architecture and attended evening classes at U.B. while hoilding down a full time job with 2 young children - not an easy task but highly motivational. Upon graduation from U.B I moved on into architecture at various small firms moving up to a position of project architect before health issues forced an early retirement in 2009, unable to continue working. I still play guitar but now for personal enjoyment and therapy for my hands after an accident in 2009 causing temporary loss of mobility , plus I belong to a model railroad club called NOME. With family and hobbies, I have plenty to do in my retirement. It is hard to believe that 2015 will be the 50 year reunion for CCHS graduates.
