Charlevoix High School Alumni

There will be an all school reunion on Saturday, July 25th from 1-3 at the Weathervane (lower level). All CHS graduates are invited to attend. Snacks and soft drinks will be provided. A cash bar will be available. This is the perfect opportunity to see classmates who may be in town for the Venetian Festival.

The anticipation is not unlike that of little kids at Christmas.

Across the state, high school football teams gathered Sunday night to watch the Selection Sunday Show on FSN to find out who their next opponent would be, and where they would play, in the Michigan High School Athletic Association playoffs.

Charlevoix is back in the playoffs after a one-year hiatus and for the fifth time in school history. The Rayders were 3-4 before closing the regular season with wins over Kalkaska and Harbor Springs. They eagerly watched the show on Sunday at coach Don Jess’ house.

The Rayders are one of 19 5-4 teams statewide to make the postseason and it was a mystery as to whether they would even be in the playoffs until it was announced during the show.

“Our kids were going crazy when they saw that come up on the screen,” Jess said. “Our kids really kept the hope alive going into that last game against Harbor and got rewarded for it.

“This group, they’ve come a long way. They didn’t have a lot of success at the younger levels. It’s a big accomplishement for them and it shows their determination and not getting frustrated. They just kept getting better every year.”
