About GRUBAUGH. Jack C.- Age 84, passed away March 9, 2016 following a long illness surrounded by his family at his home in Flushing. Arrangements provided by Sharp Funeral Homes, 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek. Jack Curtis Grubaugh was born September 25, 1931 to Donald and Mildred Grubaugh of St. Johns. He graduated from Charlevoix High School in 1950 with his high school sweetheart, Joane E. Crump. Jack and Joane married a year later on July 24, 1951 and resided in Charlevoix for more than fifty years until they moved to Nokomis, Florida in September, 2001. They then moved back to Michigan in 2007, residing in Flushing since that time. The family can be contacted at 7073 Kings Way, Flushing, MI 48433. Jack, a sergeant in the United States Air Force, was a Korean War Veteran, honorably discharged in November 1953 serving in both Korea and Japan. Upon his return from the service, he began a successful career in manufacturing accounting and plant management. He spent more than 17 years with Freedman Artcraft Engineering Corp., Charlevoix (Harbor Industries) and 20 years with Michigan Maple Block, Petoskey, retiring in 1994 as plant manager. Jack is survived by his wife of 64 years Joane, daughters Pamela Grubaugh, Diane (Ronald) Chapman, son, Gregory (Jacqueline); granddaughter, Melissa (Bryan) Jarema; grandson, Corey (Michelle) Knapp; great grandchildren, Grant and Claire Jarema. He loved them all dearly. Jack was on the board of directors of the Kiwanis Club of Charlevoix, Charlevoix Area Hospital, First Congregational Church, and Charlevoix United Way. He also served as City of Charlevoix 3rd Ward Councilman. In addition, he supported manufacturing in Northern Michigan as a board member of the Northwest Michigan Industrial Association and the Michigan Association of Timbermen. He was a past member of the Charlevoix Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, Northwest Shrine Club, Order of Eastern Star, the Charlevoix Rod and Gun Club, and a charter member of the Charlevoix Yacht Club. Jack and Joane spent many years enjoying their boating trips and also drove many miles around the U.S. in their motor home. Jack was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Ervadene Walter. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of Northwest Michigan, 220 W. Garfield Ave., Charlevoix, MI 49720. A graveside service in Charlevoix will be announced in the late spring.
