About Marjorie J. Coleman, 86. of Charlevoix, died Jan. 7 2001, at her daughter's horne in Alba.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. today, at Christ Episcopal Church in Charlevoix with the Rev. E. James Gunn officiating. A burial will take place in Brookside Cemetery.

Marjorie was born Dec. 2. 1914, in Charlevoix, the daughter of Thomas Leo Carey and Marion Emrey. She graduated from Charlevoix High School in1933.

In 1940, she married Stewart E. "Irish" Coleman and he preceded her in death on Sept. 29, 1963.

Marjorie worked as a Charlevoix Public School secretary from 1963 until her retirement in 1984. She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church and St. Martha's Guild. Marjorie was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star No. 72 in Charlevoix and was a past worthy matron.

She worked at the Rainbow Shoppe, serving as its secretary, and was a member of the Charlevoix Area Hospital Guild. Marjorie was also the first Venetian queen, Miss Charlevoix.

Survivors include her son, Charles Coleman and his wife, Tina, of Gregory; daughter, Martha Barrett and her husband, Thomas, of Alba; stepdaughter. Sarah Rice and her husband. Terry, of Byron Center; six grandchildren, nine great-grand-children; two brothers, Thomas and Esther Carey and William and Judy Carey, all of Charlevoix.

Marjorie was preceded in death by a son, Stewart E. "Spook" Coleman Jr., in 1998; and by her brothers, Robert. Charles, Keith and Don.

Memorial contributions may be made to Christ Episcopal Church Building Fund or to the Peggy Carey Northway Nursing Scholarship at Charlevoix Area Hospital.

Visitation was Jan. 9 at the Winchester Funeral Home in Charlevoix, where the Order of the Eastern Star conducted a service.
