Edwin “Ed’ Eugene Belfy, 82, of Paw Paw, formerly of Coloma died peacefully at home, Mon- Monday, April 18, 2022. Ed was born Dec. 27, 1939, in Charlevoix, Mich., to Chester and Betty (Pedersen) Belfy.
He graduated from Charlevoix High School, earning a trophy for top student in math and science.
He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps following graduation, proudly serving three years before being honorably discharged with the rank of sergeant. He was a perfect example of “once a marine, always a marine.” After his discharge he earned an associates degree at Orange Coast College in California before returning to Michigan to complete a pharmacy degree at Ferris State University. He owned and operated Belfy Drug Store in Watervliet for more than 30 years.
Ed married Sharyn “Shary” Sinclair in August 1964 and together they had two sons.
He is survived by his wife, Shary; his son, Robert “Bob” Belfy; sisters: Carol (Ken) Wojan and Jeanne (Mike Samball) Belfy. Also surviving are nephews: Jim and Terry Galmore; and a niece, Patti (Jesse) Zucco.
In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by his son, Mark Belfy; and his stepmother, Elaine (Lockwood) Belfy.
Ed was a passionate Cribbage player and received the coveted “29 hand.” He was a devoted University of Michigan sports fan and enjoyed hunting and fishing in his spare time.
Cremation has taken place and no services are planned. Donations in memory of Ed may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or the VFW Post 6248 in Decatur, MI.
