About	(APRIL 12, 1958-SEPT. 16, 2014) Kirk R. Lieberman of Petoskey passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, September 16th at his home in Bear Creek Township. Born April 12th, 1958 in Charlevoix, Kirk was the son of Rober & Jane (Kohler) Lieberman. He was the fourth of their five children, and attended Charlevoix High School where he graduated in 1976. During his time in school, Kirk thrived in athletics, especially football, and was a proud member of the Red Rayders. His football days continued at Grand Valley State University, before a neck injury ended his career. After college, Kirk entered the police academy and ultimately became an officer with the City of Petoskey Police Department. He quickly rose to the rank of sergeant, and took great pride in serving the community in this role. The highlight of his career in law enforcement was the courageous rescue of a young boy who had fallen off the Petoskey breakwall during a major storm. After his time with the police force, Kirk started a successful home inspection business which he operated for over 20 years. As a home inspector, Kirk earned a reputation for honesty and thoroughness in all his professional dealings. Kirk was a passionate hunter who could be found in his tree stand virtually every fall evening. Whether hunting in Charlevoix County or on his beloved property in Ontario, Kirk was happiest when he was in the woods. He also loved playing softball and baseball, and spent several summers coaching his son’s little league baseball teams. His children have fond memories of fishing together, going to Tiger baseball games and annual trips to Hessel. Kirk is survived by his wife Betsy; his two children Kyle (Beth) Lieberman and Bethany Lieberman, along with their mother Mary, all of Petoskey; step-daughter Jenifer (Tim) Miller and daughters Caitlin and Laurel of Ann Arbor; step-sons Matthew (Moby) and daughter Reagan, and Adam Wells all of Tallahassee, FL; sisters Kris (Tom) Schaperkotter of Charlevoix, and Kit (Mark) Weaver of Grand Blanc; brothers Kraag (Cyndie) Lieberman of Charlevoix, and Karl Lieberman of San Diego, CA. He also leaves behind nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, all of whom he cared for deeply. Kirk was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Jane. A private family memorial has been planned.
