About Genevieve A. Smith, 77, of Charlevoix, died Feb. 17, 1985, at St. Marys Hospital in Grand Rapids.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, at the Winchester Funeral Home in Charlevoix. The Rev. Philip G. Schairbaum of the First Congregational Church will officiate and burial will be in Brookside Cemetery.
The former Genevieve A. Supernaw was born Feb. 2, 1908, in East Jordan. She grew up in the Grand Rapids area and later resided in Norwood and Charlevoix. She was a 1926 graduate of Charlevoix High School and graduated from Charlevoix County Normal and Ypsilanti Normal School (now Eastern Michigan University). She taught at the Nowland Rural School and then attended cosmetology school.
On May 29, 1946, she married Lester F. Smith at Central Lake. He preceded her in death Sept. 26, 1981.
Mrs. Smith operated Gen’s Beauty Shop in Charlevoix until her retirement.
She was a member of the First Congregational Church and its auxiliary; the Leslie T. Shapton Post 226, American Legion Auxiliary, serving as treasurer for many years; Charlevoix Chapter 72, Order of Eastern Star and the Winter Wonderland Bowling Association, serving as treasurer for several years. Mrs. Smith also did volunteer work at the Charlevoix Area Hospital gift shop.
She is survived by one brother, Henry P. Supernaw of Charlevoix; 28 nieces and nephews; 14 great- nieces and nephews.
The family suggests memorials to the First Congregational Church or the Charlevoix Area Hospital. Envelopes for memorials are available at the Winchester Funeral Home where friends may call 7-8:30 p.m. today.
