About DONALDSON, Richard 9/6/1930 - 11/8/2017 Richard Donaldson (87) "The Captain" Born September 6, 1930 - Passed away November 8, 2017. Dick was preceded in death by his loving wife, Katherine Elizabeth (Gill) Donaldson. He is survived by his brothers and their wives, Chuck (Donna) Donaldson, Tom (Jessica) Donaldson and sister, Ann Donaldson Gothro; five children, Robert, Richard (Karen), Susanne, James (Eli) and Edward along with ten grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Graduated from Charlevoix High School and was a member of the legendary 1945 Football team that went undefeated and not scored upon. Graduated from Michigan State University March 22, 1956 with a degree in Business Administration and served four years in the US Air Force. Dick joined his brother-in-law, Fritz Puffpaff at Puff's Appliance Center in Charlevoix after graduating from MSU and they soon expanded the store into Petoskey, Cheboygan and Alpena. He became an icon in the appliance industry winning top honors as the national dealer of the year. In 1977 Dick purchased Sid's Appliance Center in Tucson, AZ and turned the single store location into three Superstores. Dick loved the Charlevoix community and served on the City Council and Charlevoix Board of Education (President), Charlevoix Yacht Club and Great Lakes Cruising Club. He and Kathy spent many years cruising the Great Lakes and trips to Florida and back on their boat the RED KEG II. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, November 19, 2017 at St Albans Episcopal Church, 3738 Old Sabino Canyon Road, Tucson, AZ. A summer memorial will be held in Charlevoix and will be published in the Petoskey and Charlevoix papers. The family suggests donations be made in his name to St. Albans or the Alzheimer's Disease & Dementia Association. Arrangements by: HUDGEL'S SWAN FUNERAL HOME.
