About HARVEY BOYD BOWEN age 79 of Green Valley, AZ former resident of Harbor Beach went to his heavenly home on March 10, 2005.

Harvey was born on July 30, 1925 in Charlevoix County, Michigan, son of the late Irvie and Gertrude Bowen. He resided in that area until he graduated from Charlevoix High School in 1943 and joined the US Navy. He served as a Petty Officer in the Hospital Corp from 1943- 1946 and 1951-1952. Between times of Naval duty, he attended Michigan State College and graduated in 1950 with a Bachelor of Science, Majoring in Mathematics.

While still a college student, he married Elizabeth (Beth) Cliffored on January 1. 1949 in Wellston, MI. After graduating from college, he taught math in Roseville, Central lake and then taught High School Math in Harbor Beach for 35 years. After retiring in 1991, he volunteered as a math tutor in the Middle School in Harbor Beach and in Green Valley, AZ as a winter resident.

Harvey loved sports. He workd with Ray Noble coaching the Youth League Football teams for many years and was active in most of the school athletic events, announcing the Harbor Beach football games for over 30 years, scoring the home basketball games, and attending most other events. His own sporting activities were bowling, golf and sailing with his wife Beth as crew mate.

Harvey was active in the First Presbyterian Church, serving as both Senior High and Adult Sunday School teacher. He was also active in the Adult Sunday School at Valley Presbyterian Church in Green Valley. He served on the Harbor Beach-Port Hope Regional Steering Commeittee for Bluewater Thumb Youth for Christ, and at one time on the county board.

Harvey is survived by his wife of 56 years, Beth of Green Valley, AZ; sons David of Lakeville, MN and Phil and hiw wife Cathy of Harbor Beach; a sister, Katherine Cina of Tacoma, WA an Brother Fred and his wife Sandy of Clinton Township, MI ; a brother in law John (Martha)Clifford of St. Louis, MO; 2 grandsons, Patrick (Aleaha) Bowen of Lansing and Drew Bowen of Harbor Beach, nieces and hephews as well as grand nieces and nephews.

A service was held in Green Valley in March and a Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday,k June 18, 2005 at 11 am in the First Presbyterian Church in Harbor Beach with Rev. Theresa Cutler officiating. Visitation will be from 10 am until the time of services at the church.

Memorials may be given to Bluewater Thumb Youth for Christ, Harbor Beach First Presbyterian Church, the William Eick School Family Scholarship or the Alzheimer`s Research Assoc. Arrangements are being handled by the Ramsey Funeral Home, Harbor Beach.
