About Oscar P. Stroud, aged 94, of Charlevoix, died Tuesday, August 29, 2006, at his home. He was born in Hayes Township on March 21, 1912, the son of Eugene and Anna (Loder) Stroud. He graduated from Charlevoix High School in 1930, and attended Davenport Business College in Grand Rapids. On February 1, 1933, he married Margaret Kruis and they made their home in Charlevoix in 1934. Oscar was employed by Foster Boat Works, and he and Margaret owned and operated Stroud's Wayside Cabins and Motel in Charlevoix for fifty years. Oscar was the Charlevoix Township Supervisor for thirty-five years. He was the Republican Party Chairman in Charlevoix County and founded the annual Republican picnic, which has been held the past sixty-seven years, and in that time, Oscar never missed attending one. Oscar was a member of the Independent Order of Oddfellows Lodge #293, Charlevoix. Margaret preceded Oscar in death on June 7, 2001. Oscar is survived by his daughters, Linda (Richard) Berglund, and Beverly (Gregory) Bryan all of Wyoming; grandchildren, Richard T. (Rachel) Berglund of Pittsburgh, Penn., Jennifer Berglund of Wyoming, Greg (Brenda) Bryan of Charlevoix, Geoffrey Bryan, Gordon (Linda) Bryan all of Grand Rapids; great-grandchildren, Spencer, Weston, Curt, and Katie Bryan; Todd and Troy Berglund; two sisters, Margaret Stroud Haggerty and Ruth Stroud Bietz, also preceded Oscar in death. Funeral will be 10 AM Saturday, September 2nd, at the Community Reformed Church in Charlevoix. Pastor Dan Gilmore of the Charlevoix Church of the Nazarene will officiate and burial will follow in Brookside Cemetery in Charlevoix. Visitation will be 2 to 4 PM and 6 to 8 PM Friday at the Winchester Funeral Home in Charlevoix. Memorial contributions may be made to the Charlevoix County Humane Society, 618 Beardsley, Boyne City, MI 49712
