About Shirley Mae Ball, 83, of California, MO left this life to be with our Heavenly Father on Friday, October 31, 2014 at the Moniteau Care Center in California. She was born on December 31, 1930 to Walter Edward and Rosa Cordelia Hess Rohrbach at the family home in California, the youngest of five children. On September 9, 1951 she was united in marriage to Roy Lee Ball of Spur, Texas in the California United Church of Christ by Rev. Elmer L. Koch. She was a member of the California U.C.C. all her life where she was baptized May 30, 1931 and confirmed April 2, 1944. She had strong Christian faith and loved her Church and God. Shirley was a 1948 graduate of California High School. After graduation she was employed as a stenographer with the Missouri Board of Probation and Parole. In the following years she held secretarial positions at the California Welfare Office, Employment Security, Missouri State Legislature and for the California High School Principal from which she retired. In 1979, she was presented with the award of Woman of the Year by the California Chamber of Commerce. She was a member of and active participant in many church and community groups over the years. She served as a Sunday school teacher, member and past president of the Women’s Guild, Kumjoinus Woman’s Club, General Federation of Women’s Club, 4-H leader and Girl Scout leader. She served as a republican judge at elections, was part of the UCC Historical Committee, a Project Share volunteer and was an avid gardener. Shirley was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, Gigi and friend to many. She will be greatly missed by all. She is survived by three daughters, DaLana (John) Clay, Jamestown, MO; Brenda (Brad) Wise, Blue Springs, MO; Pam (Keith) Kliegel, Jefferson City, MO. Grandchildren, Kristen (Adam) Barnes, Dacula, GA; Andy (Kacey) Clay, Jamestown, MO; Joe Wise, Kansas City, MO; Evan Wise, Independence, MO; Chelsea (Travis) Smith, Russellville, MO; Jordan Vernon, Jefferson City, MO; Ryan Vernon, Columbia, MO; Nathan Ahart, California, MO. Great grandchildren, Alex and Lauren Barnes, Hudson, Hayden and Hadley Clay, Brody Vernon and Natalie Smith and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband and beloved daughter, Cindy, her parents; a brother Clarence Rohrbach; sisters, Florence Burger, Helen Hufendick and Maxine Gravino; niece Jackie Gilbert and nephews Daryl Ash and David Ash. In lieu of floral tributes memorials can be made for the U.C.C. Worship Christ Candle and Advent Candle c/o Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services, 100 S. Oak St. California, MO 65018. Funeral Services will be on Tuesday, November 4, 2014 at 12 Noon at the California U.C.C. Officiating will be the Rev. Andrew Lovins. Burial will be at the California Evangelical Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M.- 12 Noon on Tuesday, November 4, 2014 at the California U.C.C. Arrangements are under the direction of Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services, California, MO.
