College Football Hall of Fame inductee, CFL defensive lineman, class of 1978 [16][17]

What is Randy Trautman known for?

Randy Trautman, born May 27, 1960, in Caldwell, Idaho, is a hailed alumnus of Caldwell High School from the class of 1978. He was known as a reputable figure in the world of American and Canadian football, with notable recognition as a defensive lineman. During his time at Boise State University, Trautman proved to be an undisputed force in collegiate football. He earned All-American honors in 1980 and 1981, and was also recognized as the Big Sky Conference defensive player of the year in 1981. Much of Trautman's success at Boise State also attributed to his contribution in leading the Broncos to the Division I-AA national championship in 1980.

Post college years, Trautman was selected by the NFL's Washington Redskins in the ninth round of the 1982 NFL Draft. His professional football journey continued in the Canadian Football League (CFL) where he played for the Calgary Stampeders from 1982 to 1985. He achieved West Division All-Star status in 1983 and 1984. However, his promising career was short-lived due to knee problems.

Despite his career cut short, his impact in the field endured and Trautman was honored with an induction into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1999. On a more solemn note, after struggling with health issues for several years, Randy Trautman passed away on March 1, 2014, in Oregon at the age of 53.
