What is Jonathan Broxton known for?

Jonathan Roy Broxton, born on June 16, 1984 in Augusta, Georgia, is a notable alumnus of Burke County High School in Waynesboro, Georgia. He emerged as a skilled baseball player during his high school, boasting a 9–2 record and a 1.21 earned run average as a pitcher, alongside a stellar .596 batting average with seven home runs.

After his successful high school career, Broxton was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the second round of the 2002 MLB draft. During his time in the minor leagues (2002-2006), he showed promise, with an impressive 23–11 win-loss record, 12 saves, and a 3.03 ERA in 303 innings. He played for several minor league teams such as the Great Falls Dodgers, South Georgia Waves, Vero Beach Dodgers, and the Jacksonville Suns.

His major league debut came on July 29, 2005, for the Los Angeles Dodgers, and he had an illustrious career that spanned till May 30, 2017, when he last played for the St. Louis Cardinals. Throughout his career, he had a win-loss record of 43-38, an earned run average of 3.41, and registered 758 strikeouts and 118 saves. Besides the Dodgers, he also played for the Kansas City Royals, Cincinnati Reds, Milwaukee Brewers, and St. Louis Cardinals.

Two pinnacle moments in his career were his stints as an All-Star in 2009 and 2010. His first MLB strikeout victim was none other than the Cardinals' Albert Pujols. During his very first season in 2005, he made 14 appearances, all in relief, striking out 22 batters in 13 ⅔ innings. He was indeed a force to reckon with on the field.
