Right from his high school days at Burke County High School in Waynesboro, Georgia, he showcased impressive athletic abilities as a member of the track team, recording a timed throw of 13.75 meters in shot put and running 100 meters in 10.94 seconds.

His potential as an athlete earned him a spot at the Georgia Bulldogs, where he recorded 76 tackles, 17 tackles-for-loss, and 10.5 sacks, and started in 25 of the 51 games he appeared in. One of his notable college career moments was during the 2012 SEC Championship Game against Alabama when he blocked a field goal, enabling his teammate Alec Ogletree to make a decisive 55-yard touchdown.

Washington was drafted by the Chicago Bears in the sixth round of the 2013 NFL Draft. He played for them from 2013 to 2016, during which he made his NFL debut on September 29, 2013, against the Detroit Lions, recording his first tackle. His career continued in 2017 with the Detroit Lions, with whom he signed a two-year, $6 million contract. His tenure with the Lions saw him achieve a career-high of 24 tackles, 2.5 sacks, and three passes defensed. The Lions released him in August 2018.

Despite the ups and downs of his NFL career, Washington managed to record commendable statistics. He achieved a total of 55 tackles and 5.5 sacks.

Post his player career, Washington has been serving as the Recruiting Communications Coordinator for the Washington Huskies football team since 2019, warranting his versatile skills in football, both as an athlete and a coach.
