Buchtel/Perkins Merger

Academic Excellence and a great, upgraded and/or rebuilt Building that includes upgraded and/or rebuilt sports facilities/all weather track that are worthy of the rich, successful history of many Buchtel H.S. Sports Programs, Athletes, Coaches, Community, etc.)

Academics and Real Curriculum First! Real skills and knowledge on "what's happen" in the real world! Will a new or rebuilt building on its own get this done? I think not. I did not realize that there were so many special needs children. Special in what way? I can not understand how or why a new cafeteria will address any of the top five (5) issues that need attention.

Do not choose to settle for anything but excellence (or at least continuous improvement efforts to achieve excellence). Stating that something is excellent or an improvement does not make it so! Excellent to whom? How? Is "New" excellent? What are the students really learning? Are the skills and education that they receiving truly preparing the students for the real world after high school? (whether it be the work force, skilled trades, tech. school, apprenticeships, entrepreneurship, or college). Will a new building answer this question? How (details please)?

I hope to see many of You there at Buchtel on 2/19 and meet with the others who are beginning to prepare proposals, designs, layouts, etc. I may not be able to make some of the earlier meetings so I ask that whoever can make any of them to please convey some o

We Want Your Input!

Hello Buchtel Alumni, we are parents of three Buchtel graduates. Akron Public Schools is having public meetings for input about what the new Buchtel-Perkins 7-12 school building will look like. Your input is critical. The community attendance was 35 at a December meeting; 25 at the January 8 meeting and 15 at the January 22 meeting.

The next meeting dates are:
2/5 at 3:30 at Perkins LRC;
2/12 at 4:30 at Buchtel LRC and
2/19 at 6:00 p.m. at Buchtel LRC.

If you can only attend one meeting, make it the 2/19 meeting at Buchtel. This will be the last meeting before the 'Design Drawings' begin. Attend more than one and be up on what is being proposed.

The school planners must know that the Buchtel Alumni and community cluster care and have input as to what the next Buchtel-Perkins school building should be; thanks for your continued support of a great high school (No voice, no choice). Spread the word to attend.
