Brookhaven School District has excellent facilities, with many new renovations at all schools having taken place over the past few years. A $13 million renovation and expansion project at the high school included a $7.5 million local bond issue and $3.5 million from the state. The high school, originally built in 1938, is recognized by the Mississippi Department of Archives as true to its Art Deco design and now has what is considered to be the most advanced sound and lighting system of any high school in Mississippi.
The district has had several National Merit Finalists, and its Technical Student Association has been ranked in the top ten in the nation for the last five years. Class sizes in the elementary grades are exemplary. The high school's extracurricular program is outstanding, with district, regional or state championships in every sport. The band has achieved an All-Superior rating for the past six years, and the chorus achieved that rating last year. State championships have also been garnered in forensic and science competition.
