About Jay Hogue, age 61, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Aug. 7, 2011, surrounded by his family. Throughout his illness of the past several years, Jay never wavered in his faith. His passing will surprise many of his friends because he always kept a cheerful outlook and made light of his condition in order to spare everyone of his constant uphill battle. Instead, his attention was directed to others. He was devoted to his family and he was also a dedicated participant in many Baton Rouge service organizations. He also had a very special place in his heart for the annual Downtown Kiwanis Pancake Day. Jay was the recipient of the Tablet of Honor Award and Hixon Award for Kiwanis International. Jay's love for the LSU Tigers was legendary. He was a staunch fan of LSU football for over 50 years, coaching the LSU Tigers from the stadium sidelines and away TV games. He graduated from LSU in 1972 and continued to support the Tigers throughout his business career in the insurance industry. His ready smile and easygoing demeanor earned him countless friends in the Baton Rouge area. Jay was a special light in this world and he will be missed by many. He is survived by his mother, Lois Akers Hogue; his wife Susan Patureau Hogue; his daughter, Julie Hogue Bergeron and husband Paul; grandson, Bennett Joseph Bergeron; and numerous other in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
