A celebration of life service will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2005, at 1 p.m. at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Bemidji, Minn., with the Revs. Mark Hovestol and Mark Peske officiating. Interment will be at the Bagley City Cemetery at Bagley, Minn.
He was born on June 20, 1955, to Pastor Martin and Alma (Heine) Kretzschmar in Cambridge, Mass. He was the sixth of seven children. At age 3, his family moved to South Minneapolis near Minnehaha Creek. As a boy, he loved to play by the creek. In sixth grade, the family moved to Brainerd, Minn., where he graduated from Brainerd High School in 1973. David attended Brainerd Community College, Lakewood Community College and North Hennepin Community College, graduating with an associate in arts degree. He attended Northwestern College of Chiropractic and graduated on Dec. 12, 1979, with a degree as doctor of chiropractic.
David set up his first chiropractic clinic in north St. Paul in 1980. As city life was not his dream, in 1981 he opened Bagley Chiropractic Clinic and found his niche in this small community. Serving and caring for his patients was a fulfilling career. Working hard was always a part of his character. Delivering newspapers in the fourth grade was a small beginning. As an adult, he became involved in promoting business growth as he served on several boards for the surrounding community of Bagley. He was a member of the chamber of commerce and served as president and treasurer. He served on the Bagley Industrial Development Corp. (BIDC), Bagley Economic Development Cooperation (BEDC), Governor's Interagency Coordination Council, Interagency Early Intervention Committee, Itasca State Park Advisory Board, Friends of Itasca, Farm by the Lake, Clearwater County Volunteer Sheriff Reserve and RISC.
Following his son's interest in scouting, David became a Cub Master, Webelos leader, Scout Master and Commissioner. He was awarded the Silver Scout and District Merit awards. It was purposeful and meaningful for Dave to use his God-given talents providing leadership to others in scouting. His son will always be grateful for the time his dad took being a father through the scouting program. Being a dad brought great delight and purpose to each day. The births of his children were the most magnificent moments of his life. Daughters and dads have a special bond; his girls will cherish each and every memory. David loved God and served Him in a variety of ways. In the church , one of the most precious times of helping was working in the nursery on Sunday mornings. His little buddies came to know him as the "cookie man." David was a supportive, committed and loving husband. He was an encourager and never failed to bless.
David is survived by his wife, Judy; daughters, Jewel and Joy; and son Jordan, all of Bagley, Minn.; parents, Martin and Alma Kretzschmar; three brothers, Dennis (Fran) Kretzschmar of Portsmouth, R.I., Steve Kretzschmar of Austin, Texas, Stuart (Rita) Kretzschmar of Richland, Wash.; three sisters, Frances (Jack) Holm of Albuquerque, N.M., Marla (Scott) Rostron of Maplewood, Minn., and Deb (Chuck) Devore of Hugo, Minn.; mother-in-law, Mabel Dewey of Bagley, Minn.; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Frank and Jesse Dewey of Bagley, Minn., Robert and Susan Dewey of Clearbrook, Minn., Kathryn and Keith McMahon of Carrolton, Texas; nieces Amy, Tamika, Leigh Ann, Jenni, Autumn, Summer, Samantha; nephews, Quynh, Billy, Robert, Charlie, Joe, Adam, Conrad and Matthew; also great-nieces and nephews and many treasured friends.
