She married Deane Gardner Boyden on August 25, 1946 in St. John's Episcopal Church. At the time of their marriage Bertha was working at the Buzzards Bay Bank and Deane was working in his father's business, the Boyden Plumbing Company in Sagamore after serving as second officer in the Merchant Marine. Both were graduates of Bourne High School.
