About Alden Ames Baker
BOURNE
August 28, 2012

Alden Ames Baker, 94, lifelong resident of Buzzards Bay, died peacefully on August 24, 2012 surrounded by his family. He and his loving wife Barbara had just celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary.

Mr. Baker graduated from Bourne High School and worked on the Cape Cod Canal until the start of World War II.

He married his sweetheart and enlisted in the United States Coast Guard. His eighty-three-foot cutter was sent to Omaha Beach and was responsible for the highest number of rescues during the D-Day invasion.

Following the war he travelled the Cape while working for CW Douglas Auto Parts Store.

He was a member of the Dewitt Clinton Masonic Lodge and enjoyed fishing, boating and golfing. He was always kindhearted and ready with a joke.

Alden joins his late daughter Barbara Baker-Clark and son-in-law Perley Johnson in heaven.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Cape Cod Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Visiting hours were held Friday, August 31 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. with a funeral service that began at 12 p.m. at the Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home, 40 MacArthur Blvd., Bourne MA.

Burial was at the Oakland Grove Cemetery in Bourne.
