About Pocasset – Alice M. Koronkiewicz of Pocasset died, Sunday, February 3, 2013 from Alzheimer’s disease at the age of 88. She was the wife of the late George A. Koronkiewicz of Pocasset. Alice was born in Presque Isle, ME on April 23, 1924. She was the daughter of Jerry and Rose (Butler) Markee. She graduated from Presque Isle H.S. in 1941. After graduation, she promptly volunteered as a U.S.O. hostess during WWII. She worked for Maine Potato Growers, Inc. for many years before her husband was transferred to Otis A.F.B., and Cape Cod became their home. At the base hospital, Alice served as an American Red Cross volunteer, Gray Lady, helping where nonmedical support was needed. She was a life-long Catholic who served as a choir director, and later, as head of the CCD program at Ramstein Nato Base in Germany. She was a communicant of Saint John the Evangelist in Pocasset. Alice was especially proud of her work as a secretary in the guidance department at Bourne High School. She loved the students who graced the halls from 1969 to 1986 when she retired. In her retirement, she loved breakfast with the “girls”, family trips, reading, and QVC shopping. She is survived by her sister, Elizabeth Champagne of Hyannis; her children: Michael Koronkiewicz of New York, Patrick Koronkiewicz of Florida, and Carol Bergen, of Falmouth; her three grandchildren: Michelle Frye of Boulder, Amy Bergen of Boulder, and Jared Koronkiewicz of New York; and 4 great-grandchildren. Calling hours will be held at Nickerson Bourne Funeral Home, 40 MacArthur Blvd. in Bourne on Wednesday, February 6 from 4-7. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. John the Evangelist, 841 Shore Road, Pocasset on Thursday, February 7 at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at the National Cemetery in Bourne. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (www.alz.org/manh/in_my_community_donate.asp)
