Carolyn Matthews Maddamma
Class of 1961
I am so proud of my sister, Carolyn Matthews Maddamma, who has published her memoir called A Wing and a Prayer (available at amazon.com or through bookstores). The following is a quick review: She was raised by her grandparents for the first several years. She was molested by her biological father when she was just 13, that sent her into a terrible depression for more than ten years. In spite of her first adult encounter, she met and married a wonderful guy at 17. They lived a frugal existence for many years while they built a life for themselves. After returning to school to study for a business degree, she found a job she loved in mid-level management at an HMO. She was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 1984. She lived through the ups and downs of the chronic disease, and the death of her husband from cancer, for several years before her condition began to stabilize. Her story tells of her ability to find joy and happiness in the exploring new interests, within her capability, and the benefit of possessing a positive attitude!
