Born April 17, 2001, in Burlington, Kansas, Braun made a name for himself as a formidable basketball player. As a senior at Blue Valley Northwest, he led his team to a third straight Class 6A state title, averaging an impressive 27.8 points, 9.3 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game. His impressive performance earned him the titles of Mr. Kansas Basketball and Kansas Gatorade Player of the Year in 2019.

After high school, Braun committed to playing college basketball for the Kansas Jayhawks, turning down offers from several esteemed schools. During his time at the University of Kansas, he cemented his legacy, earning Big 12 All-Freshman Team honors in his first year. Moreover, he became the 65th player to reach 1,000 points for Kansas, contributing significantly to the Kansas Jayhawks' victory at the 2022 NCAA Championship.
