Mike Kochel, an American football player, was born on March 6, 1916, in Bloomfield, New Jersey. Known for his football skills, he attended Bloomfield High School before moving on to Fordham University. He made a name for himself at Fordham as one of the Seven Blocks of Granite of the Fordham Rams football team, becoming a highly regarded guard in American football.

In recognition of his contributions to the school's football legacy, Kochel was inducted into the Fordham University Hall of Fame in 1975. His professional career continued in the National Football League (NFL), where he played as guard. Kochel was picked by the Chicago Cardinals in the 19th round of the 1939 NFL Draft and played for them in the same year. During his stint with the Cardinals, he played in 8 games, starting 3 of them.
