A product of Bloomfield High School, Knapp kickstarted his career at the Cedar Stars Academy before earning a place at the youth academy of the New York Red Bulls in 2017.

At Montclair State University, Knapp showed his talent on the soccer field, playing 35 matches and scoring 3 goals for the Montclair Red Hawks from 2018 to 2019. His performances earned him the New Jersey Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year award in his first season, and he became NJAC Midfielder of the Year in his sophomore season.

Knapp's professional career began with the New York Red Bulls U-23 in 2018, followed by a stint at FC Motown in 2019, and moving on to Morris Elite in 2020. However, it was with the New York Red Bulls II, the reserve team of the New York Red Bulls, that Knapp truly began to shine.
